I packed a lot of unnecessary things in my hospital bag when I was first pregnant because according to Google, you need those 5 pajamas and you need your lifetime supply of underwear.
Here is what you REALLY need when you go deliver your baby:
- Phone charger with extra long cable
- Toothbrush + toothpaste
- Pad underwear x number of times you think you would change your pad (think your period x 3 times heavier) x number of days your staying at the hospital (yes there is a 2 in1 pad underwear and it’s a game changer, it’s so much comfier than normal pads + underwear)
- Nursing bras x number of days you’re staying at the hospital x change 2 times a day
- Comfortable pants (yoga pants/stretchy pants) x number of days you are staying in the hospital x 2 (with a possible change twice a day incase you leak/spill/etc)
- Nursing tops x number of days you are staying at the hospital x 2 (with a possible change twice a day incase you leak/spill/etc)
- Nursing pajamas x number of nights you’re staying (or just a comfy pant + nursing top for the night feeds)
- Nipple cream
- Nursing pads (I use the bamboo reusable ones because they are comfortable, highly absorbent and eco-friendly)
- Breast pump (in case you want the midwives to show you how to use it)
- Shampoo (100ml)
- Conditioner (100ml)
- Hair serum
- Hair dryer or iron
- Hair brush
- Hair ties/scrunchie/clip
- Body wash (100ml)
- Body cream/oils (100ml)
- Facial wash/toner/moisturiser (100ml)
- Makeup (you’re going to take photos, and these photos are for life)
- Deodorant
- Perfume
- Snacks (all your favourites)
- Water bottle
- Postnatal vitamins (or the same as your prenatal)
- Belly band (you only have 6 weeks to push those abdominal muscles in place if there is any separation so use the belly band ASAP)
- Thick socks x number of days you are staying there
- Room slippers
- Extra pair of shoes (in case your water breaks on the shoes you wear to the hospital)
- Frida mom postpartum witch hazel wipes, peri bottle + foam (for vaginal delivery, this was amazing)
- Nipple shields (breastfeeding was so painful, I wish I had these to help)
- Organic raspberry leaf tea (to help with the bleeding + cramps)

Unless hospital provides you with these:
- Baby onesies x 2 (in case of a leaks/mishaps) x number of days you’re staying
- Baby blanket x 2 (one for the hospital, one for going home)
- Baby newborn diapers x 5 x number of days you’re staying at the hospital
- Baby swaddle x 2 x number of days you are staying at the hospital
- Baby mittens
- Baby hat
- Baby socks
- Baby burp clothes/bibs
- Baby photo outfit or swaddle (for the photo op of course)
